ARC Accelerator® elementary is an intervention program designed to provide targeted instruction and practice for elementary students not yet reading on grade level.

ARC Accelerator's Approach

ARC's Elementary Accelerator keeps it simple: the right tools, the right moves, right when students need them. The goal of ARC Accelerator is to rapidly increase the complexity of text each student can read and understand on their own.

ARC Accelerator is designed to provide targeted instruction and practice for elementary students who are not yet reading at grade level. Scripted, easy, and fast, it's perfect for your intervention, MTSS, or RTI space.

Daily Lesson Structure
5-10 minutesGet StartedTeacher sets a focus task and students read.
High-Utility
Skills/Strategy
Teacher introduces or reviews a transferable skill, strategy, or habit essential for reading success.
15-30 minutesDifferentiated
Instruction
Teacher uses the IRLA and Toolkits to provide scripted instruction to groups based on like foundational skill and/or vocabulary needs. Students participate in targeted instructional groups and deliberate reading practice.
5–10 minutesAccountable
Talk
Students discuss how the high-utility skill/strategy applies to their reading as oral rehearsal for the Exit Ticket.
Wrap UpEach student logs their reading and completes an Exit Ticket, demonstrating their current command of the high-utility skill/strategy.

Accelerate Reading Growth*

Each student/group engages in sufficient reading practice and receives Toolkit instruction to accelerate reading growth as quickly as possible:

  • 1B and below: Meet with daily.
  • 2B–1R: Meet with every other day.
  • Bk+: Meet with every other week.

Check in with each student regularly to monitor progress. Students working at:

  • 1R and below: Assess every 7–10 days.
  • 2R–Wt: Assess every 2–3 weeks.
  • Bk and above: Assess every 3–4 weeks.

Adjust intervention groups as students are ready for the next IRLA level.

Designed on the research behind the Science of Reading, Accelerator helps students quickly build the skills needed for grade-level reading. Engaging whole-group lessons combine scripted instruction and student-friendly resources to give all students access to essential, transferable skills such as context clues and morphology.

During each Accelerator lesson, students receive personalized instruction targeting their specific needs. Daily small-group or one-on-one lessons help close skill gaps quickly, while practice reinforces learning and builds toward grade-level proficiency.
