Chief Leschi Schools (CLS)earned national recognition by receiving the U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon School District Sustainability Award. This award honors their innovative efforts to teach students how to care for the planet, reduce environmental impact and utility costs, improve health and wellness, and ensure effective sustainability practices.

Across the country, 26 schools, 11 school districts, and four postsecondary institutions were honored. CLS is Washington’s first state-tribal education compact (STEC) school to be selected as a Green Ribbon School District.
