From the Science of Reading to the Science of Learning

The Science of Reading is shorthand for more than 50 years of research on how humans learn to read – not just phonemic awareness and phonics, but vocabulary, comprehension, and the essential role of knowledge building as well.

The Science of Literacy includes the Science of Reading, but also the research on everything it takes to become literate, including Writing, Speaking, and Listening – from knowledge as foundation of literacy to the reading/writing connection to what really works in grammar instruction.

Cognitive Science is bigger than “just” literacy. It is the body of research on the brain – including the best ways to teach and learn anything.
